Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi 5 has been in news for quite some time now. Now, a new teaser image has surfaced showing the number 5 along with the words, “Are you ready”. The image also confirms that the next Xiaomi flagship will feature a fingerprint scanner, reports Techzoom.
However, there is no word on the release or availability details yet. So, we will just have to wait until the official invites are out. Some reports have been pointing at November release, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the company hosts an event anytime soon.
There have been consistent rumours about the Xiaomi Mi 5, codenamed Libra, to feature fingerprint scanner technology. A previous report had hinted at a fingerprint scanner named Sense ID. This sensor is said to work on ultrasound technology rather than on optical which is seen in the current fingerprint sensors.
The report also hints at a 5.3-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixels of resolution, and pixel density that goes up to 554ppi, instead of the previously rumoured 5.5-inch display. Earlier, the Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus were believed to run Snapdragon 810. However, it was reported that due to heating issues in the 810, it preferred going with the 820. However, since the Qualcomm 820 won’t be ready in time for production, they are now said to have switched back to Mediatek.
The chipset is likely to be coupled with 4GB of RAM and 16/64GB internal storage. A 3,030mAh battery is expected to power the device, slightly lower than lower than the 3,080mAh battery seen on its predecessor. On the camera front, one can expect a 16MP rear snapper and a 6MP front-facing camera for selfie lovers. The handset will run Android 5.1.1.
Recently released benchmark scores reveal the Mi 5 to have scored 73,075 points. The high score is owing to the deca core CPU found on the MediaTek Helio X20 Soc.
There’s the larger variant, the alleged Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus, which is said to feature a 6-inch 2K display and a nearly bezel-less display. Not much is known about the device, but going by previous report, one can expect 4GB of RAM, 32GB onboard storage and 16MP rear camera.
