Mobiles worth over Rs.10 lakh stolen from Amazon's warehouse

Mobile handsets worth about Rs 10.37 lakhs were allegedly stolen from the godown of an e-commerce company by its employees here, police said.

According to a police complaint lodged by Amazon company, on May 22, a total of 17 mobile handsets were stolen by five contractual employees from the storehouse, Padgha police station Inspector Jaiprakash.

The stock in the godown at Kurund village near Padgha also included some high-end mobile handsets, he said.

An offence under IPC sections 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) had been registered against the five persons, he said, adding no arrest has been made so far in connection with the theft.

Meanwhile, another contractual employee was caught allegedly stealing a mobile phone worth around Rs 7,500 from the storehouse on May 29 and was subsequently arrested, police said.

The arrested employee, identified as Aakash Sapat, was charged under sections 381 and 511 (attempting to commit offences) of the IPC, police added.

Alibaba launches India’s first free App-lock with Face-lock feature

Alibaba Group on Wednesday launched “Privacy Knight”, India’s first free app-lock with face-lock feature that enables users to unlock their protected apps through a one-second selfie. “Face Lock is set to change the way people protect their privacy. It is the next big thing after fingerprint lock. The age of face lock is here”, Ebrahim Popat, Country Manager of 9Apps, an Android marketplace within Alibaba Mobile Business Group, said in a statement.

“Privacy Knight” works on a one-second-step for face locking, saving users the trouble to remember patterns or pincode. The face lock and blink detection setting ensure a 99.47 percent accuracy of face recognition. “Privacy Knight” is safer than other locks as no user information upload is requested since face lock is accessible offline, the company claimed. Besides face lock, “Privacy Knight” also offers users protection including app lock, vault, clean, themes, intruder selfie, fake cover, fake icon and more.

Patriot announced new SSDs, massive 2TB Ignite and budget-friendly Spark

Patriot has a couple of new solid state drive options, including one that's aimed at users who want more capacity out of single drive setups, and another that's intended for budget buyers.

Starting with the former, Patriot added a 2TB capacity option to its Ignite line of SSDs. This is Patriot's performance family of SATA 6Gbps SSDs, which prior to this new addition topped out at 960GB. Now there's a model more than twice as big to accommodate growing libraries of games.

"The 2TB Ignite offers consumers the fast transfer speeds expected of our Ignite line along with the extra capacity required by power users," Said Les Henry, VP of Engineering at Patriot. "These drives are the perfect solution for those users with very large game and video libraries as well as systems being used for cloud storage."

As with the other drives in the Ignite series, the 2TB model uses a Phison S10 controller. According to Patriot, it can deliver sequential read speeds of up to 560MBps and sequential write speeds of up to 500MBps.

The 2TB Ignite SSD will be available to purchase sometime in the fourth quarter. Patriot didn't say how much it will cost, but as a point of reference, the 960GB streets for about $310 to $315.

If that's a bit rich for your blood, Patriot also launched its Spark series for builders looking for a superior bang-for-buck proposition.

The Spark series is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities. All three models pair TLC NAND flash memory with a Phison S11 controller. Depending on the capacity, sequential read and write speeds go up to 555MBps and 500MBps, respectively.

"The Spark is a perfect entry level drive for those users looking to add a boost to their system," Henry said. "As many companies are just now coming out with their first generation TLC SSDs, the Spark is Patriot’s second generation TLC SSD Line."

Patriot will make its Spark SSDs available sometime in the third quarter. They'll be priced at $35 for the 128GB model, $57 for the 256GB SSD, and $105 for the 512GB model.

Gigabyte Aero 14, An Ultrabook for Gamers

There's no hard and fast rule that says gaming laptops have to be thick and heavy. Meet Gigabyte's new Aero 14, a 14-inch ultrabook-like system with gaming chops.

The Aero 14 measures 335mm x 250mm by 19.9mm (WxDxH) and weighs 1.89kg. If that's all we told you about it, you might assume it's a thin and light business laptop. And it is, albeit a colorful one that might be a little more attention getting than what you're comfortable lugging into a board room. But it's also equipped with discrete graphics, GeForce GTX 965M or 970M for gaming once you've clocked out of work.

Gigabyte's Aero 14 features a QHD 2560x1440 IPS display powered by Intel Core i7 Skylake CPU options. There are two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots supporting up to 32GB of 2133MHz memory, and room for two M.2 PCI Express Gen3 x4 SSDs.

The laptop supports dual-4K output via HDMI and mini DisplayPort connectors. It also has a memory card slot, 3x USB 3.0 Type-A ports, and a USB 3.1 Type-C connector that's of the faster Gen2 variety for a theoretical ceiling of 10Gbps.

There's an auto-adjusting backlight on the low profile keyboard, along with five dedicated macro keys positioned on the left-hand side. You can program these using Gigabyte's Macro Hub software.

Gigabyte claims up to 10 hours of run time on the 94.2Wh battery, though that's when tapping into the integrated graphics. As always, your mileage is bound to vary, especially if you're playing games instead of punching out TPS reports.

The Aero 14 is the only thin and light gaming laptop on the market. Both the Razer Blade Stealth and Maingear Pulse 15 both come immediately to mind, though neither are true ultrabooks. Razer's Blade Stealth is thin and light too, but it relies on an external GPU for gaming. It will be interesting to see how Gigabyte prices the Aero 14 in comparison to those machines.

Buyers will have a choice between three color options when the Aero 14 becomes available, including black, green, and orange.

AMD Radeon RX 480 VR-Ready $199 Graphics card

AMD has announced a new Radeon RX 480 graphics card priced at $199 and capable of "delivering VR capability common in $500 GPUs." The Radeon RX 480 is scheduled to launch on June 29, with a model that is certified to power the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

The card is part of AMD's strategy to "dramatically accelerate VR adoption" and grow the market. It will be the first card to use a Polaris architecture-based processor. According to AMD, the company noted from the results of a survey that high costs represented the highest barrier to VR adoption.

The announcement notes that AMD intends for Polaris architecture-based cards to bring VR-ready desktops and notebooks to market over the next ten years.

Three months ago AMD revealed the "most powerful graphics card in the world" the $1500 Radeon Pro Duo, aimed at VR developers. While the price point is a far cry from the $199 Radeon RX 480, the card signifies AMD's heavy investment in virtual reality.

More recently, competitor Nvidia released the GeForce GTX 1070, a $379 GPU which the company claims is more powerful than the $1,000 GeForce GTX Titan X.

AMD launched its seventh-generation Bristol Ridge A-series APUs (next-generation laptop processors)

AMD is marking the occasion of Computex Taipei by launching its next-generation laptop processors. The seventh-generation Bristol Ridge A-series APUs, that's AMD parlance for "Accelerated Processing Units" that include a CPU and GPU on the same chip feature CPU cores based on the new Excavator architecture alongside Radeon graphics. The FX chips are at the high end of the range, while the A12 and A9 are positioned as competitors to Intel's Core i5 and i3 processors respectively.

AMD is claiming that Excavator delivers up to 52 percent improved CPU performance over the sixth generation, with up to 53 percent higher visual performance than the integrated graphics in unspecified Intel Core i7 processors. As for power efficiency, AMD offers the somewhat unusual statistic of "as little as one third the power consumption of a three-year-old AMD system for 1080p video playback" while delivering up to 38 percent higher performance, so make of that what you will.

AMD's flagship laptop for the launch is a variant of HP's Envy X360 convertible, which launched last year with Intel Skylake processors. The Envy X360 has a 15.6" display that flips around for tablet use, and AMD is claiming up to 10 hours of battery life. It and other seventh-generation AMD APU systems should be available from today.

Samsung's new BGA NVMe SSD is incredibly small and fast!

Samsung announced that it has begun production on its latest SSD, a 512GB NVMe PCIe fitted in a ball grid array package, making this hard drive smaller than a US postage stamp. Designed for the next generation of super-thin ultrabooks, the PM971-NVMe comes in at 20mmx16mmx1.5mm, and weighs a gram. It will also "triple the performance of a typical SATA SSD," Jung-bae Lee, Samsung's senior vice president of memory product planning & application engineering team, said in a statement.

With read/write speeds of up to 1,500MBps and 900MBps respectively, and the ability to transfer a 5GB video in three seconds, the PM971-NVMe is no slouch. Samsung says it will manufacture the SSD in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities, and make them available to its customers next month.

Solarin, a new smartphone promising 'military-grade' security

A new tech company called Sirin Labs is launching its first smartphone today. It's called the Solarin, and it's supposed to be a super high-end phone with super high-end security features built in. "Solarin incorporates the most advanced privacy technology, currently unavailable outside the agency world," Sirin Labs writes in its announcement.



If that doesn't tip you off, Sirin Labs is making some fairly bold security claims here, which you'll want to take with some skepticism for the time being it's a new company, and there's no track record to judge it by.



Sirin Labs says its first phone includes "military grade" encryption integrated into its hardware. There's also a physical "Security Switch" that puts the phone into a "shielded mode" for making secure phone calls. Sirin Labs doesn't elaborate on how that works exactly, but, presumably, it won't fully shield the phone from outside signals (although that would make it pretty secure). The phone also appears to come with some sort of built-in security software.



Those security features come at one heck of a price: Engadget reports that Sirin Labs will sell the Solarin for £9,500 pre-tax, or just under $14,000 USD. It's seemingly hoping to target wealthy customers for whom privacy deeply matters.







Aside from its privacy features, the Solarin seems to be a pretty standard, mostly high-end smartphone. It has a 5.5" Full HD display, a Snapdragon 810 processor, and a 23.8MP camera with laser-assisted autofocus. That's not quite as high-end as you'd expect when paying over $10,000 for a phone, but I guess the Solarin's buyer is supposed to have higher priorities. Sirin Labs is also talking up its support for MU-MIMO and WiGig Wi-Fi, both of which offer faster speeds in certain situations (and if your router supports them).

Samsung's upcoming Gear Fit 2 details have been leaking out everywhere, with leaked promo images and official press shots already floating around the web. Now according to a report from SamMobile, we have the full specifications for Samsung's next wearable:

• Samsung 1GHz dual-core processor

• 512MB of RAM

• 2GB of internal storage

Samsung will likely have a few more bells and whistles to show off, given their habit of putting every feature they can come up with in a device. But we'll have to wait until some time in June, when the Gear Fit 2 is expected to be officially unveiled, to see what else Samsung has up its sleeve.

Qualcomm announced Snapdragon Wear 1100 for smartwatches

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon Wear 1100 processor that is designed for entry-level smartwatches, fitness trackers, and similar accessories.

India and other developing regions could be a big stage for the Snapdragon 1100 processor. The world’s second most populous nation is seeing a steady growth in the demand for smartwatches and fitness trackers among other wearable devices.

Qualcomm says the Snapdragon Wear 1100 system-on-chip is designed for kids’ watches or watches for elderly, fitness tracker, and smart headsets.

“These kinds of products do two to five things really well. They run a more targeted software environment, like Linux. The whole user experience is much more targeted around these use cases. They still require low power, high integration, small size, and a good connected experience,” Pankaj Kedia, senior director and business lead of smart wearables at Qualcomm told VentureBeat, adding that the Wear 100 chipset can handle only “a few usage cases”.

The launch of the Snapdragon Wear 1100 comes months after Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon Wear 2100, which is designed to serve smartwatches as well as fitness-centric features among others. Qualcomm continues to struggle against MediaTek in the affordable smartphone category. It’s refreshing to see that it is aggressively trying to get hold of the cheap-priced wearable space.

Qualcomm, which assumes the tent pole position in the smartphone market, is actively making efforts to capture the wearable space, which is still in its nascent stage.

Sony launched Xperia E5 with 5-Inch Display, 13MP Camera

Sony has launched Xperia E5 in Europe. Priced at EUR 199 (roughly Rs. 15,000), the smartphone features budget specifications, and is available in single-SIM and dual-SIM variants. There is no word on availability in other regions as of now, while Black and White colour variants have been announced.

Android Marshmallow Sony Xperia E5 bears a design similar to the recently unveiled X-series of smartphones, and sports a 5" HD (720x1280p) display. The Sony Xperia E5 Dual features identical specifications to its single-SIM variant, and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor, with 1.5GB of RAM.

The Xperia E5 features a 13MPrear camera with LED flash, and a 5MP front camera that's also accompanied by an LED flash module. It bears 16GB on inbuilt storage that's expandable via microSD card (up to 200GB). It supports Nano-SIM cards.

Dell unveiled a new line of Inspiron with World's First 17-Inch 2-in-1 Laptop

Dell unveiled a new line of Inspiron 2-in-1s and notebooks at Computex 2016. In the 2-in-1 category, Dell unveiled the Inspiron 7000, Inspiron 11 3000, and Inspiron 5000 devices. The company also unveiled the Inspiron 5000 notebooks in two sizes at Taipei. The prices for all of these products start at $249.

All the 2-in-1s will hit US and China markets first. They will be available on the company's website starting June 2. 

Inspiron 7000:
The Inspiron 7000, it will be made available in 13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch sizes. This last size makes it the world's first 17-inch 2-in-1 laptop according to Dell, It runs on Windows 10, and is powered by the sixth-gen Intel Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors. Furthermore, it sports an full-HD resolution, infrared camera, and a standard backlit keyboard. It supports USB Type-C port, and offers facial recognition through Windows Hello. The Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 laptop series is priced starting $749.

Inspiron 11 3000 2-in-1:
The Inspiron 11 3000 2-in-1 has a 11.6" HD(1366x768p) display. It runs on Windows 10, and supports USB 3.0 (no USB Type-C) port connectivity. It is competitively priced at just $249.

Inspiron 5000 2-in-1s:
Next up, the Inspiron 5000 2-in-1s come in 13-inch and 15-inch size options. The highlight of these laptops is the backlit keyboard, as well as facial recognition via Windows Hello. It runs on Windows 10, and packs up to 16GB of dual channel DDR4 RAM. The price for the Inspiron 5000 begins at $529.

Inspiron 5000:
Apart from 2-in-1s, the company also launched regular notebooks. The 15-inch and 17-inch Inspiron 5000 notebooks are powered by the sixth-gen Intel Core i7 processors, and run on Windows 10. The notebooks come in many colour options like Midnight Blue, Bali Blue, Fog Night and Tango Red. There's up to 16GB of dual channel DDR4 RAM, with an infrared camera (facial recognition) only on the 15-inch variant. Dell has not divulged the price of the notebooks, but confirms that they will arrive globally by the end of 2016.

Mahindra e-Verito electric sedan to launch on June 2

Mahindra's electric sedan, e-Verito, will finally launch on June 2. The company is holding a press event for the same. The electric version of its only Sedan Verito, e-Verito was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and met with a series of delays. To keep consumer interest alive, Mahindra also showcased it at the last Auto Expo in February.

The e-Verito is expected to cost between Rs 7-8 lakhs. It runs on a 72V 3-phase AC induction motor and is capable of delivering a maximum of 30.5 kW (41 hp) at 3,500 rpm and a torque of 91 Nm at 3,000 rpm. The car can attain a maximum speed of 86 kmph.

It has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The e-Verito measures 4,277 mm in length, 1,740 mm in width, and 1,540 mm in height.

The car comes with 185/70 R14 tubeless tyres, roof rails, 10-spoke alloy wheels, chrome grille and has a wheelbase of 2,630 mm.The e-Verito's battery takes around 8 hours to fully charge and the company claims that it's capable of traveling 100 kms on one full charge. The top end D6 trim model will have fast charging capabilities and a promised charging time of around 6 hours.

Zuk launched Z2 with Snapdragon 820 and Full HD display

ZUK has announced its much-rumoured smartphone the Zuk Z2 in China. The device packs in top of the line specifications and is priced to go at an attractive CNY 1799 (approximately Rs 18,000). The device will go on sale from 7 June in China and registrations for the same begin today.

The handset is available in two colours, black and white and is currently available for purchase on zuk.com, Suning Tesco and the Lynx flagship store. The handset on sale is built for the Chinese market. It packs in a 5" Full HD display with 2.5D curved glass screen. Inside, it have the mighty 2.15Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

There’s an 13MP rear camera that features Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) and dual-mode focus, while an 8MP front camera with 1.4μm pixel size. The handset features dual SIM slots with 4G LTE radios along with VoLTE support. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/​​b/g/n/ac (2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.1 and a USB Type C port at the bottom.

The handset runs Android Marshmallow with ZUI 2.0 and features a fingerprint reader on the front below the display, that also acts as the home button.

The Zuk Z2 weighs in at 149 grams and packs in a 3500mAh battery that also features Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0. Additionally the company will also sell a wireless charging cover for CNY 299 (approximately Rs 3,058).
