Asus launches Z170 series Motherboard, for the Intel Skylake Processors

Asus has launched its latest Z170 chipset sporting motherboards in India, to house the Intel 6th gen series processors. The motherboards have been released across a range of categories addressing the gaming enthusiasts as well as mainstream users. The prices start from Rs 12,020 for the Asus Z170-P D3 and going up to Rs 22,470 for the Asus Maximus VIII Hero from the Republic of Gamers series.

The Maximus VIII Hero and Maximus VIII Ranger are highest end ROG boards in the ATX form factor whereas Asus also has the microATX ROG board – the Maximus VIII Gene. However, of these three only the former two are selling in India for Rs 22,470 and Rs 18,815 respectively. All ROG Maximus boards will come with RAMCache technology which lets you keep your favourite games and apps cached on RAM for quickly launching them. They also come with RGB lighting which can be set to change shades based on the CPU load.
While the ROG series is known for its high end gamer-centric features, Asus has added another gamer oriented motherboard with the Z170 chipset called the Z170 Pro Gaming. It has the colour palate of the ROG series but comes at a lower price in comparison to the Maximus series boards and naturally has lesser features than the ROG boards.

All the Asus boards feature interesting features for overclockers, since Intel has released two unlocked Skylake processors. The Asus Pro Clock technology lets you overclock the base clock frequency of up to 400MHz and beyond. This works with the Asus TurboV processing unit, which is seen on Asus boards. Another proprietary feature is the Asus T-Topology traces, which increases stability and lets you overclock DDR4 memory effectively.
5-way optimisation feature has been seen on Asus boards for few generations now and is also present on the Z170 boards. It lets the board dynamically optimise settings of your system based on real-time usage of your components, thereby giving you optimal performance.

The Asus Z170 deluxe, seen above, comes with an interesting white-coloured shield around on top of the back panel IO area. This series is called the Signature series and Asus has improved the UEFI BIOS design on this series of motherboards as well. This board also has electromagnetic shielding of the audio section. It supports Crystal Sound 3 which features separated right and left audio channels.
The Z170 series boards come with USB 3.1 support for Type-A and Type C ports as well, giving data transfer speeds of 10Gbps as opposed to 5Gbps on the USB 3.0 standard. Considering we will be seeing a lot more USB Type-C products in the near future, Asus has also released a 100W USB 3.1 power delivery panel, which comes with two USB Type-C ports for charging your USB Type-C devices. This will be sold separately and the price is not known at the moment.
